On Wednesday October 14, 7:30pm, Hugh Ashton will be at the Kimono Wine Bar, Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo, reading from his latest book, Beneath Gray Skies, which takes a look at an alternative 1920s world where the American Civil War was never fought. Please see the Kimono Wine Bar link for map and directions.
Intrigue, espionage, Zeppelin airships (and romance!) form key themes of this full-length novel. He will also talk about the joys and perils of alternative publishing.
The charge for this event is ¥3,000, which includes one drink (wine, etc.), snacks, and a personally signed copy of Beneath Gray Skies (if purchased through Amazon Japan, the book costs about ¥2,600). Guests bringing their own copies of Beneath Gray Skies for signing may enter for ¥1,000 (and receive the free drink and snacks).

Shinagawa Djembe Posse is a session group that centers on drum “Djembe” of Africa.
The rhythm is all about feeling and experiencing the beat. The groove harmonizes and becomes a heart beat.
The Shinagawa Djembe Posse are a regular feature at the Pink Cow on the last weekend of every month. Their goal is to create a space where generation, sex, race, and religion come together and celebrate life and living.

With two recent song placements in the feature film, “I Hate Valentine’s
Day” by Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and fresh off the stage from The Whisky A Go Go, Melinda Ortner is well on her way on her musical journey.
Melinda recently had a big shout out “tweet” from Pharrell’s band,
“Chester French” of Interscope Records. She was voted Best of 2007 and 2008 for KLAS FM Radio in Los Angeles. A semi-finalist for IMWSC, Melinda has been building her growing fan base in the tough love trenches of Los Angeles.
She is in the midst of recording her 2nd EP and has just released
a music video for her new single “Heartbeats”.

Masafumi Saitou from Aragehonzi is a guitarist and plays Yokobue(flute) and Ming-yo based songs.
Shamimaster Toshi (Tsugaru-shamisen, koto, okinawan sanshin)
Modern music with Japanese traditional instruments! The koto song ‘diagonal shadow’ is my recommend.
